The welcome reception will be held at Red Bar, a Korean bar located only a few blocks away from the hotel and Koreatown. There will be a private room open to Mini-Gathering Participants only, where you can sit and relax in one of the many couches, sing karaoke/노래방, or just mingle with other attendees. The rest of the bar will be open to other customers, however we suspect this will end up more-or-less being a private party.

Youngsun Lee
Executive Chef and Owner of Persimmon Kimchi House
Youngsun Lee is a self-developed chef. Immigrating to NYC at the age of twelve, he grew up in Queens and studied Graphic Design and Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts. Working at various magazine and graphic design companies was not as fulfilling and decided to follow his true passion – cooking! Helping his mother and grandmother since he was fifteen years old, it was only natural that he’d pick up the family recipes and create his own unique blend. He looks up to the chefs in this own family, many of them in Korea. One if them even cut sashimi for the President in the 70’s and 80’s.
Youngsun learned very traditional ways of cooking from his beloved grandmother, such as royal cuisine to true home cooking with ‘lots of love’. He learned how to put ‘love and care’ into food first, rather than the quickest way of making tasty food. That makes the ultimate difference in good cooking. He also refined his cooking techniques from his aunt, who studied royal cuisine. When he decided to become a chef, Youngsun attended the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE). He learned a great deal about other cuisines and now teaches Korean cooking classes (Korean BBQ, Korean Cooking for Seasons and Kimchi) at ICE.
