Contact: artgathering@ikaa.org Introduction: The IKAA Gathering 2007 in Seoul is a unique opportunity to show the diversity of expressions of international Korean adopted artists. The ARTgathering consists of three main events and in connection to them there will be artists' talks, performances, poetry readings and much more. 1. OPEN CALL The first event is an OPEN CALL. All Korean adoptees participating at the Gathering are welcome to submit works to be shown at the OPEN CALL Exhibition Wall. Texts, photos, drawings are all acceptable for submission. It is a space for free creative expression that will visually bring together different voices and visions of adoptee identity in one collage. Also proposals for performances, poetry readings, book presentations or other creative expressions can be submitted. The idea of the OPEN CALL exhibition is to show the diversity of creative expressions flourishing within the international adoptee community on many different levels and from many different backgrounds. All participants will be offered the possibility to have a short presentation at the Gathering website and on a CD-R compilation. UFOlab will organize a meeting for all the OPEN CALL artists to share knowledge and networking. More information will follow. OPEN CALL Submission and Conditions for Participation: If you are interested in submitting a work or propose an art project, please download and complete submission form and email it to: artgathering@ikaa.org before APRIL 1st. Confirmation of participation will be sent out before JUNE 1st. NB! Due to limitations of time & space, not all submissions may be accepted, but we will do our best to accommodate as many as possible. General Terms & Conditions: Transportation, insurance & custom clearance has to be taken care of by each artist. A few volunteers will help with the exhibition installation, but the individual artists have the overall responsibility for the hanging or installation of their own works. Installation of the exhibition will start Tuesday July, 31st. At the end of the Gathering, contributors have to take down their works. 2. Curated Visual Arts Exhibition / Film & Video Screening of Overseas Adopted Korean Artists The main event of the ARTgathering is an off site Visual arts exhibition / Film & Video Screenings held in an artspace in Seoul with international Korean adoptee artists that are based and working around the world. Curators: Kim Stoker, (KR) and Maya Weimer (US). Producers/Organizers: Kate Hers (US) and Eleana Kim (US). The works are selected from a thematic point of view; the main goal with the exhibition is to show the diversity of Korean adoptee artists works for the gathering public, the Korean public and the South Korean art scene. How international Korean adoptees thrive in the art world and the unique possibility to see international Korean adoptee artists exhibited in such an extent and diversity. In addition to the exhibition there will be a catalogue produced that will be given to all the gathering participants and participating artists. A separate opening reception of the curated arts exhibition is being scheduled. More information of time and date will follow. This exhibition is open to the general public. UFOLAB PUBLIC WORK & PERFORMANCE: "The Grand Event" The third block is a public artwork and performance organized by the Scandinavian artists group UFOlab. They will make an event during the Adoptee World Cup with volunteering Gathering participants to be performed on Friday August 3rd. More information will follow in the coming months. |
